Artist Statement

Madeleine Aleman uses different materials, techniques and expressions. Since 2012 her art practice focuses mainly on drawing, print making and performance. Aleman is strongly influenced by psychology and spirituality. Hypnagogic states and dreams are important sources of inspiration. To access layers other than intellect and craftsmanship Aleman practices Carl Gustav Jung's technique Active Imagination as well as divination with the Chinese oracle I Ching. Aleman finds that altered states of consciousness offers the opportunity to clear away layers of preconceived notions, to get around incorporated habit patterns and find a more direct, inner mode of expression.

Madeleine Aleman (born 1959 in Stockholm), lives and work in Malmö. Her work has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions in Sweden, Spain, China and several other countries. Aleman has studied at the University College of Arts, Craft and Design in Stockholm and is also a certified art therapist and teacher.
